I've purchased a 2005 xterra, GREAT vehicle. Since I've had it [purchased 12/2005] the 'VDC oFF' & 'SLIP' indicator lights have came ON and stayed ON until Reset by procedure in manual. Took it to the dealer, they 'reset' the code/module. Not even a week later, the lights are back on. It's a bit annoying - not even 2000 miles on it yet.2006 Xterra. Car woldn't start, so it was jumped. Put in a new battery. Ever since the ABS, Slip, and VDC lights have stayed on. Took it to a Nissan dealer who said it would be a simple rest for $50. They came back and said it would be $1500 since the ABS Control Unit is fried and needs to be replaced. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Put the original Brake switch back in. Then after 15 mins of the negative battery being left off, then connect and see if that clears it up. VDC and slip lights sound unrelated and usually mean you've got an ABS code, so get that pulled and go from there. Before you do any of that though, get yourself under your truck and figure out where the transmission fluid is "pouring" out from. Even though you may look at it and it looks ok it's really not. To know for sure gently pull on the wires that come off the frame to the wheel up by the plug. VDC is Vehicle Dynamic Control. It applies the brake to a spinning tire in order to arrest a slide on a slick surface, such as wet concrete or ice. It's not supposed to be used off-road. The system that the newer Xterras have that is useful off-road is ABLS, which stands for Active Brake Limited Slip.Put the transmission in N and cycle the 4wd to 4 high or 4 lo. Sometimes you have to move a little put it back to Nuetral and cycle till the light goes off.
